Saadat Ahmadi, one of the thousands of Afghan evacuees that came to the U.S. after the Taliban offensive in 2021, had the opportunity to learn about immigration law through his work with Catholic Charities, which eventually led to his role serving as a DOJ Accredited Representative and helping out others in his community.
"Thanks to the support of Catholic Charities of Dubuque, I gained the knowledge needed to become a DOJ accredited representative. As an immigrant, I understand the complexities of the immigration system and am proud to help my Afghan community and broader immigrant communities navigate it more effectively, achieving greater legal stability. Though I initially thought it would be hard, I am thrilled to be in this position and make a meaningful difference," shared Ahmadi.
Similar to legal aides, accredited representatives assist immigrants by providing crucial support in various aspects of the immigration process. They help fill out forms, gather necessary documents, and prepare immigrants for interviews and hearings.
